If I sign up to do outdoor exercise, but decide I want to do a virtual activity instead, is that okay?
Yes! Everyone who signs up will receive information about virtual activities and can sign up.
What kind of virtual classes and activities will there be?
From Friday October 2 to Sunday October 4, we will hold a variety of virtual exercise classes on Zoom. These will include cardio dance, strength and conditioning, rumba, adaptive yoga, and other activities. We’ll provide a schedule of classes to all participants. We’ll also hold at least 2 virtual hikes.
Virtual hikes are led by a nature guide or outdoor leader who will provide you with a detailed guided audio experience of a nature trail/experience. Using Zoom, we will provide two virtual hike experiences: one set in the San Francisco Bay Area and one in another location. Hikes will last about 45 minutes to an hour and will provide opportunities to interact with the group.
What if I need an adaptive bike and I don’t have one of my own?
If you’d like to use one of BORP’s adaptive bikes for the Revolution 2020, that’s fine.
But you MUST contact Leo, the cycling center manager, at leo@borp.org and let him know. You’ll need to make an appointment and show up at your scheduled time. This is important because we need to make sure everyone who needs an adaptive bike can get one and, due to safety concerns during the pandemic, we are practicing social distancing at the center.
Will BORP provide an outrider if I need one?
Because of the pandemic, BORP is unable to pair you with a volunteer outrider this year. Instead, consider having a family member or friend accompany you. Or do one of our virtual activities instead.
Remember, if you want to cycle from the BORP Cycling Center, you MUST make an appointment with Leo, the cycling center manager, at leo@borp.org.
I don’t need an adaptive bike, but I’d still like to cycle from the BORP cycling center. Is this possible?
You are welcome to start your route at the Cycling Center, but if you’re not using a BORP bike, we cannot accommodate people inside the center. We’re so sorry, but social distancing requirements mean we have to limit the number of people at the center. However, we will have a banner outside the center where you can take a photo of yourself starting your ride.
Will there be any transportation provided by BORP to the BORP Cycling Center?
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 safety issues and regulations, BORP is unable to provide any transportation at this time.
Will there be a supported ride from the BORP Cycling Center?
No, due to safety issues resulting from the pandemic, BORP does not have the capacity to provide a supported ride and we are NOT planning any kind of official BORP group ride from the Cycling Center. However, if you need an adaptive BORP bike, you can get a bike at the BORP Cycling Center.
To do this, you MUST contact leo@borp.org and make an appointment. If you don’t need an adaptive bike, you are welcome to start your ride outside the Cycling Center, but due to social distancing requirements, you won’t be able to come inside.
Do you have any recommended routes for cyclists or walkers/rollers?
Yes! We will be providing everyone who’s interested in cycling with possible routes on the San Francisco Bay Trail of different lengths and from various starting points, including the BORP Cycling Center in Berkeley. We will provide several suggested bike routes of approximately 5, 10, 25, 50 and 70 miles. We will also provide suggestions for walk/rolls along the Bay Trail of 2, 5 and 10 miles. Of course, you’re welcome to design your route from your home or anywhere else.
Is there a limit to how many virtual classes and hikes I can sign up for?
No. You can sign up for as many of the virtual activities as you want. We will be sending invitations to all participants. However, you MUST register beforehand for each virtual activity you want to attend—we’ll be providing sign-up deadlines later.
How do the virtual classes and hikes work?
All of The Revolution 2020 virtual classes and activities will be hosted on Zoom. You’ll have a chance to sign up for as many as you want. To participate, you’ll need a Zoom account, an internet connection or a phone. For most of the fitness classes, you’ll probably want to join using a computer. Make sure you download the Zoom software prior to when you plan to join; it’s usually straightforward, but it can take a few minutes.
What if I want to form a team?
Teams are a great way to participate in The Revolution 2020. You can do joint fundraising, provide support and encouragement to each other, and engage in activities together. If you want to form a team, feel free to reach out to friends, colleagues, or others and ask them to join you. You can set up a team page on this site. Please note that if you plan to do a walk, ride or other outdoor activity together as a team that you should practice appropriate social distancing, wear masks, and follow other guidelines provided by your local public health department. BORP encourages everyone to put their health and safety first.
Do I have to participate in the launch party and the closing celebration?
No. But we’d love it if you join us. We’ll be celebrating the BORP community with some fun and entertainment as well as recognizing fundraisers, teams and sponsors.
Can I choose to do both outdoor exercise and one or more virtual activities?
Yes! If you want to do a walk/roll, bike ride or other kind of outdoor activity AND participate in one or more of our virtual activities, that’s fine. Everyone who signs up for The Revolution 2020 will receive an invitation to participate in our virtual activities. You can sign up for as many, or as few, as you want. So, if you want to do something outdoors and virtual activities, you can.
Do I have to commit to a specific exercise goal to participate?
We’re leaving it up to you to set your goal for The Revolution 2020. For example, you can challenge yourself to do a bike ride or walk that will be a stretch for you. Or you can commit to take a number of exercise classes over 3 days. Or you can try out a virtual hike for the first time and also take a bike ride. It’s your choice!
